Haynesville Shale: Supporting Louisiana Communities

When you think of energy production in Louisiana, it is easy to just think of traditional crude oil. After all, according to the EIA, Louisiana crude oil production ranks fourth in the United States, even when excluding Federal offshore areas. But advances in shale gas production techniques have meant even more energy coming from the Bayou State.

In fact, the Haynesville Shale has become the nation's highest-producing shale gas play.

The Haynesville natural gas shale generated a combined $11.5 billion in 2008 and 2009, and created 58,000 jobs in 2009.

As drilling operations increase, so do the public's concerns over the potential impacts. Louisiana natural gas has good news:

An in-depth review of the Louisiana hydraulic fracturing regulatory program has been completed by a multi-stakeholder review team. The review team has concluded that the Louisiana program is, over all, well-managed, professional and meeting its program objectives.

Oil and natural gas production has been a key element in Louisiana's economy for many years, and with the right economic development policies, will continue to create jobs for years to come.
